Services

NJVLA provides the following referral services to artists and arts and cultural organizations that have arts-related legal issues:

• LEGAL LINE – a one-time phone call to a volunteer attorney usually of 30 to 60 minutes in length. This is available to anybody, regardless of their income.
• LAW FAX – a document review service whereby a volunteer attorney will review a contract or other legal document of up to three pages in length. This is available to anybody, regardless of their income. Note: please do not fax us your documents, we will not review them. We provide referrals to volunteer attorneys, who will review your documents.
• FULL-SERVICE – For those clients who meet the income eligibility requirements, NJVLA will attempt to match them with a volunteer attorney who will provide legal representation for a specific matter. Please note: in order to be eligible for full-service referral, artists and arts organizations must meet the following income criteria:
  • Artists - annual income and assets must be equal to or less than:
    • $30,000 for single artists
    • $50,000 for married or cohabitating artists
    • $2,000 Per dependent credit
  • Arts Organizations
    • These are reviewed on a case-by-case basis; generally, an entity with an annual budget (as opposed to income) of less than $750,000 is accepted.
    • You must be a 501(c)3 corporation or planning to become one.
  • We will require you to verify this information with the previous year’s income tax return.
